Dressage

The club holds regular Dressage  competitions throughout the year resulting in various trophies and league titles being awarded

Training Opportunities

A range of  training activities at various venues appear over the year, often arranged by small groups of members. Regular clinics are held on alternate weeks at Walford and Berriewood

Combined Challenge / Arena Eventing (SJ/XC) and Combined Training (Dressage/SJ)

Combined Challenge is also known as Arena Eventing.  The competitor completes a course of Show Jumps and then goes onto jump a course of Cross Country jumps, usually on a surface.  These competitions are often run in conjunction with another area at somewhere like Solihull or Kelsall.

Combined training is a recently reintroduced competition in the BRC calendar. The competitor completes a dressage test as well as a round of show jumps at a specified height.  Area 20 have recently linked with another Area to run a joint qualifier e.g. Warrington or Solihull.

The Combined Championships are for both of these competitions.  Due to the names being similar it causes some confusion.

Horse Trials

Since 2010 a number of successful cross country training sessions have been held both indoors at Walford and outdoors at Llanymynech and Berriewood. These have proven to be popular being suitable for anybody interested in jumping XCountry type fences and improving that aspect of their horsemanship.

Show Jumping

Regular training sessions take place at Walford or Berriewood and are available to book on HorseMonkey. Ad hoc training sessions are sometimes available.  BRC Area 20 show jumping summer qualifiers take place on grass and winter qualifiers are on a surface unless advised differently.

Walford and Berriewood Regular Training Clinics

Walford – Regular dressage and show jumping clinics take place on Wednesday evenings. The show jumping clinics run with a maximum of 4 in a group of similar capability (be that horse or rider)! Dressage clinics offer a specific timeslots which allows for warm up, one to one period and cool down.

Berriewood – Regular show jumping and dressage clinics are available at Berriewood Farm, Condover on Thursday evenings. The show jumping clinics run with a maximum of 4 in a group of similar capability.  Dressage clinics offer a specific timeslots which allows for warm up, one to one period and cool down.

All clinics and other training opportunities must be booked through HorseMonkey and times will be shared on Shrewsbury and District Riding Club Facebook page.  Shrewsbury and District Riding Club | Facebook  Priority will be given to SDRC members, if oversubscribed.

Teams

The club enters teams and individuals to BRC Area20 qualifiers. Participation is open to all so if you want to take part it is up to you to enter for SDRC Area 20 qualifier on HorseMonkey and you must be available for the Championships date.  Please contact the Chef d’Equipe for further information.

Club Competitions

The Club holds dressage and show jumping competitions throughout the year, usually at Walford. These competitions are open to all and can be booked via Horse Monkey with times published on the SDRC Facebook page and emailed to those entered if not a member.

The “Connie Wynn” trophies are awarded to SDRC members who gain the most points from the competitions each year and awarded at the SDRC AGM or soon after (dependent upon dates).

Competitions are advertised on Horse Monkey, SDRC Facebook and the website.

Safety Standards - Hats and Body Protectors

Hats and back protectors will be checked and tagged at qualifiers and championships.

Hat and Back Protector Standard Changes

Back Protectors – From 1 January 2024, BRC will only accept BETA level 3 (2018) body protectors or newer.  Older back protectors will not be accepted.

Hats – From 1 January 2023, BRC will no longer be accepting two hat standards, due to the age of hats made to these standards.  Hats will need to be presented for tagging at BRC Area 20 Qualifiers, if not current:

  1.           PAS  O15 1998
  2.           SNELL 2001

For insurance (and personal safety ) purposes it is recommended that during all ridden club activities hats conforming to these guidelines are worn.

BRC Social Media Guidelines

G15.3 Social Media

Whilst BRC acknowledge that social media can be an ideal way to communicate with both members and the wider equestrian community any defamatory comments relating to members, official, volunteers and staff of BRC or the BHS will not be tolerated. An online post is libellous if it is damaging to a person’s reputation. Re posting or re tweeting can be seen as an endorsement of the original comment.

Therefore when using the internet and all social media members and clubs must not:

• Post any threatening, derogatory, obscene, indecent, seditious, offensive, pornographic, abusive, disparaging, racist, discriminatory, menacing, inflammatory, blasphemous, or defamatory statements or material, including, but not limited to, statements or material concerning BRC, its members or former members, its sponsors, affiliates and stakeholders;

• Make any statements that could directly or indirectly damage BRC’s name;

• Use BRC logos, brand names, slogans or other trademarks, or post any of its confidential or proprietary information without BRC’s prior written permission.

Failure to comply with the provisions of this rule may result in disciplinary action under these rules and/or civil proceedings. BRC may also require posts to be removed, where comments or any other submissions may constitute a breach of this rule.

BRC reserves the right to monitor, intercept and review social media postings and activities to ensure that its rules are being complied with, and for its legitimate business purposes.

BRC will comply with any law, or request by any governmental or other regulatory authority, or order by a court or other authority of competent jurisdiction, requiring BRC to disclose the identity or location of any member posting any material in breach of this Rule. BRC may share a member’s personal information with the police or any other governmental authority if it is asked to do so in connection with the investigation of suspected illegal activities.

 

BRC FluVac Statement Nov 2019 and Nov 2022

From 1 January 2024, all flu jabs must be undertaken in accordance with guidelines in the BRC Handbook.  BRC Flu Jabs are required every 12 months (annually).

For BRC Area 20 competitions, all competing horse passports must be emailed to area20liaisoncommittee@gmail.com  in advance of the competition.

To check dates yourself, BRC offer an annual flu checker which is available for download.  Dates can be entered to check whether flu jabs are correct – in date or not : BRC Downloads | The British Horse Society (bhs.org.uk) and select Competitions – Flu Vaccination Checker (ensure you choose correct year)

More about the club

Shrewsbury and District Riding Club (SDRC) is an autonomous organization run by an elected committee on behalf of its members. Elections are held at the AGM, which is normally held in November/December. SDRC is affiliated to British Riding Clubs (BRC) and for adminstration purposes and qualifying competitions is part of BRC Area 20. SDRC is run according to its’ own constitution as well as BRC rules.
