SDRC Camp

SDRC Camp 2023

Somerford Park Farm, Congleton

Another successful camp, again held at Somerford Park Farm, the weather was perfect, the going good, a great venue and even better instructors.

Attendees had a 40 minute individual session with our dressage coach, Jake Taylor. Jake prefers teaching on an individual basis and our attendees benefit from his undivided attention. Feedback from one attendee was ‘I learnt how to do loads of different things that I’ve only ever watched Emily do in lessons – leg yielding, rein back, turn on the forehand, quarters in, quarters out – thank you’

Sarah Warner delivered show jumping, x-country and flatwork for show jumping sessions, with loads of fun taking place out on the amazing x-country field. A special award goes to Heather for her impersonation of a submarine – making an amazing recovery to stay together (video can be seen on FB)

Neil Fox was a new instructor to SDRC. Neil comes with a wealth of experience having completed Badminton 6 times. He’s still competing at a high level but enjoys teaching, and the feedback was extremely complimentary, and we’ll be looking forward to getting Neil to do some more clinics for us (and hopefully camp next year).

Thanks go to Sarah Garthwaite for giving a talk on physio talk on basic anatomy, how it’s effected by riding and training, how physio can help and what owners can do to help?

To Lydia Breton for coming along with her weighbridge, dispensing advice on how important it is to keep our horses at a good healthy weight, and how that can be achieved.

And Faith Page who did a yoga session on Friday night, aimed at some exercise and stretches for horse riders to improve the core muscles.

Thanks to all the attendees for mucking in (and out) to ensure camp ran smoothly, pooh picking and washing up

Special thanks also go to Sarah Edwards, Penny Hayward, Lel Benyon and Cathy Still for all their help over the weekend, even though they were busy with their own horses. I couldn’t have done it without you.
