Teams

As you may be aware there are team competitions all through the year for British Riding Clubs. These start at friendlies between clubs and other organisations through to area level which culminate at championships.

Shrewsbury and District Riding Club sends teams to these competitions and our aim is that our members have fun. Getting placed is a bonus! We think that it is a very good way to get to know other people in the club which can be very difficult for people if they don't go to the training sessions or to the nights that we hold.

It does NOT matter what level you are at only that you would like to have a go and take part. Mostly we end up having a picnic at the end of the day and open a couple of bottles of orange juice and wine and beer!!! This is great as it can take quite a time for results to be published!!!

We are interested in putting people into teams to send to these events but we also send forward individuals who don't like the pressure of a team. Teams and individuals qualify for national championships where lots of our members go to support them.

Area qualifiers are run in a variety of disciplines:

  • Novice dressage - usually a prelim test.
  • Open dressage - novice and elementary tests.
  • Medium dressage.
  • Riding tests - similar to a dressage test but judged more on the rider.
  • Pairs dressage - with and without music. Novice and elementary level.
  • Quadrilles - a team of 4 get dressed up and do dressage to music.
  • Rural Riders - a team of 6 get dressed up and do dressage.
  • Show jumping - novice (up to 2'9"); intermediate (up to 3'3") open (up to 3' 9")
  • Equitation jumping - the style of the riding is marked. (up to 2'9").
  • Horse Trials - one day events at novice, intermediate and open.
  • Hunter trials - novice, intermediate and open.
  • Hunter showing - culminates at the Festival of the Hunter.

If you are interested in taking part in any of the above either individually or in a team please ring:

  • Dressage - Karen Whittaker
  • Show Jumping - Simone Cooper
  • Horse Trials and Hunter Trials - Liz Roberts

We would ring each and every one of you to ask but with over 100 members this would cost us a fortune! Please make the first move and show make us aware of your interest and then we can follow it up! You have to put yourself forward and make use of us and the club!

EGM

The AGM of Shrewsbury & District Riding Club was held on 10 th November 2008 and was attended by some 50 members.

The purpose of the AGM is to conduct the official business of the club as well providing members with an opportunity to comment and discuss matters regarding the running of the club.

Unfortunately due to constant interruption and disruption this year, essential matters of business were not concluded correctly and as a result this meeting has been declared null and void. An extraordinary general meeting will, therefore, be held, to conclude the business of the AGM. Until this meeting the current committee will continue in place.
